HARARE A 24-year-old man from Harare has been brought before the courts to answer to allegations of raping his 17-year-old aunt.
The suspect, whose name is being withheld to protect the identity of the minor involved, appeared in court this week as the state outlined the gravity of the offense.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place under circumstances that violated the trust of the family unit, involving a victim who is legally a minor.
The court heard that the accused allegedly took advantage of their familial proximity to commit the act. The matter came to light after the 17-year-old reported the ordeal, leading to the suspect’s immediate arrest by the police.
Magistrates have remanded the accused in custody pending further investigations. The state is expected to provide medical affidavits and witness testimonies as the trial continues.
