A 39-year-old man from Nyanga has been convicted after destroying a fellow villager’s crops in a dispute over land ownership.
Luckson Benedict, also known as Luckson Mahato, appeared before the Rusape Magistrates’ Court following an incident that occurred on 18 April 2026 at around 0700 hours in Village 17, Fox Rock.
The court heard that Benedict confronted Mugayi Anesu over a piece of land the victim was cultivating. Despite being advised that Anesu had lawful permission to use the land, Benedict went on to deliberately slash and destroy fully grown maize, potato crops, and vegetables.
The total value of the damage was assessed at USD 440.
Benedict was sentenced to 3 months imprisonment, wholly suspended on condition he restitutes the full amount. A further 5 months imprisonment was also suspended on condition that he performs 140 hours of community service at Majejo Primary School.
