CHINHOYI – The Chinhoyi Magistrates' Court has sentenced two Kadoma men to an effective 12 years imprisonment following their conviction on two counts of robbery, including one committed under aggravating circumstances.
Ronald Rori (25) and Japhet Maskati (25), both residents of Destiny, Kadoma, were found guilty of terrorizing victims in the Chakari area during a violent robbery spree in late 2025.
The court heard details of two brutal incidents that left victims traumatized and injured:
November 18, 2025: Around midnight, the duo broke into the home of a 28-year-old woman while she was asleep. Armed with machetes, knives, and torches, they threatened her life. During the raid, one of the men struck the victim on the ankle with a machete. They escaped with US$800 cash, cellphones, and gold, with a total value of US$1,810.
December 3, 2025: The pair, alongside accomplices who remain at large, targeted a gold dealer by pretending to be clients. Once inside, they produced a firearm and launched a coordinated assault. The dealer was struck on the forehead with an iron bar, while his wife was tied up and suffocated to force her to reveal where cash was hidden. The gang looted over US$20,000 worth of gold, a pistol with ammunition, and several cellphones.
Magistrates handed down the heavy sentence to reflect the gravity of the violence used and the use of dangerous weapons. While Rori and Maskati begin their 12-year sentences, police continue to track the remaining members of the gang.
Always verify the identity of "clients" before allowing them onto your premises, especially after hours. If you have information regarding the accomplices still at large, please report to your nearest police station.
