A Bold Step Towards Development and Crime Prevention
Mutoko, 9 July 2026 – President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has officially commissioned the Finealt Engineering Mutoko Bio-Economy Industrial Park, describing the project as a key milestone in Zimbabwe's industrialisation drive and a catalyst for sustainable socio-economic development.
The multi-million-dollar industrial park will manufacture cooking oil, detergents and stock feeds while supporting out-grower schemes for local farmers and creating thousands of employment opportunities. The initiative is expected to stimulate local production, enhance value addition and improve livelihoods across Mutoko and surrounding communities.
Beyond its economic significance, the project represents a strategic investment in crime prevention by addressing some of the underlying causes of criminal activity. Employment creation and increased household incomes are expected to reduce poverty, idleness and economic desperation—factors often associated with theft, robbery and other crimes.
The industrial park will also empower young people through skills development and job opportunities, providing productive alternatives to drug and substance abuse, gang involvement and other forms of delinquency. By strengthening local industries and supporting entrepreneurship, the project is set to boost small businesses, transport services and commerce, creating a safer and more resilient local economy.
Improved incomes are expected to contribute to stronger families and healthier communities by reducing financial pressures that can lead to crime and other social challenges. As communities become economically empowered, they are also better positioned to participate in neighbourhood watch initiatives and community policing programmes, strengthening partnerships with law enforcement agencies.
Addressing delegates during the commissioning ceremony, President Mnangagwa emphasised the importance of economic empowerment in promoting peace and security.
"Projects like this are critical in addressing the root causes of crime by creating opportunities for our people. A productive society is a peaceful society," said President Mnangagwa.
The commissioning of the Finealt Engineering Mutoko Bio-Economy Industrial Park demonstrates that sustainable development and crime prevention go hand in hand. By creating jobs, empowering communities and promoting inclusive economic growth, the project lays the foundation for a safer, stronger and more prosperous Zimbabwe.
Crime prevention extends beyond law enforcement—it also requires investment in opportunities that improve people's lives and eliminate the conditions that often give rise to crime.
