MARONDERA – Thousands of people turned out for a vibrant community roadshow hosted by Ndera FM in partnership with National FM in Marondera yesterday, with organisers estimating attendance at approximately 5,000 people.
The event brought together residents from Marondera and surrounding areas, as well as visitors from Harare, Rusape, Buhera, Mazowe and Norton. It provided a platform for community engagement, business promotion, entertainment and public information sharing.
Several leading businesses and organisations showcased their products and services, highlighting the growing role of community events in supporting local economic development. Companies also sponsored numerous prizes, with many attendees walking away as winners. Sponsors included EcoCash, NetOne, Samsung, Unilong Equipments, Proton Bakers, Agriseeds, among other businesses.
Entertainment was provided by well-known radio personalities and DJs from both stations. National FM presenters DJ Kanyemba Bhonzo and Bhozhongora entertained the crowd alongside Ndera FM's DJ Major and DJ 6000 Horsepower, creating a lively atmosphere throughout the day.
A major highlight of the roadshow was the announcement of the launch of Ndera FM Community Radio, a development welcomed by residents who believe the station will strengthen access to local information and give the community a stronger voice.
The station is expected to broadcast programmes focusing on community development, crime prevention, legal awareness, road safety, public health and peaceful coexistence. Among the anticipated programmes is Crime Focus, which will provide educational content on crime prevention, public safety, law enforcement issues and strategies for building safer communities.
The Municipality of Marondera also took advantage of the large gathering to announce the upcoming release of residential stands. Council officials encouraged interested residents to register on the waiting list to improve their chances of securing residential land once allocations commence.
Community members described the roadshow as a successful initiative that combined entertainment, business networking and public education while strengthening partnerships between media organisations, businesses and local communities.
The event demonstrated the growing importance of community radio stations in promoting development, disseminating vital public information and creating platforms that encourage citizen participation in addressing social and community safety issues.
