The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating a disturbing case of murder and attempted murder which occurred on 23 July 2026 at Ngenisa Farm, Mbalabala, Esigodini, after armed robbers allegedly attacked two people before setting their cabin on fire.
According to police, Tracy Simela (56) lost her life after she became trapped inside the burning cabin. A second victim, a 46-year-old complainant, survived the attack but sustained severe burns after managing to escape from the flames.
Preliminary investigations indicate that two unidentified male suspects, armed with a knife and an axe, allegedly assaulted the victims before stealing an Oking cellphone, a Vodafone cellphone, and US$20 in cash.
The suspects allegedly poured petrol inside the cabin, locked both victims inside, and deliberately set the structure on fire before fleeing into nearby bushland. Tracy Simela died in the inferno, while the surviving victim escaped with serious burn injuries and is receiving medical treatment.
Police investigations are underway to identify and arrest the suspects.
