In February 2026, Chikanga began a persistent campaign of unwanted advances. He attempted to use a "grooming" tactic, offering the teenager USD10 to enter into a relationship—an offer the victim bravely refused.
Undeterred by her rejection, Chikanga’s behavior escalated from harassment to a violent criminal act. Later that month, exploiting his knowledge of the home's layout and the victim’s schedule, he entered her room while she was alone. He used physical force to overpower her and committed the act of rape. In an attempt to evade justice, he issued stern threats to ensure her silence, banking on the fear and stigma that often surround such trauma.
