HARARE – Three men who carried out a violent armed robbery at a Hello Paisa branch in Kuwadzana 2 Shopping Centre have each been sentenced to an effective 18 years' imprisonment by the Harare Magistrates' Court.
Edson Murambidzi (33), Takudzwa Makanha (24), and Munyaradzi Muchero Hodzi (30) were convicted for their roles in the robbery, which occurred on April 16, 2025. The trio acted in concert with accomplices who remain at large.
According to court proceedings, the offenders, armed with three .38 Special revolvers, iron bars and axes, stormed the financial services outlet where they violently assaulted security guards before tying up one of the victims.
The gang then used explosives to blast open a safe and escaped with US$8,950 in cash, a .38 Special revolver and a Huawei Y6 cellphone. The total value of the stolen cash and property amounted to US$10,000.
Investigations led to the recovery of property worth US$900, while detectives also recovered three .38 Special revolvers and live ammunition that were forensically linked to the robbery.
The court sentenced each of the three offenders to an effective 18-year prison term, while investigations to apprehend their remaining accomplices are continuing.
The successful prosecution underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies and the courts to combating violent armed robberies, which continue to pose a serious threat to public safety and the security of businesses and communities.
