HARARE — A Harare lawyer is expected to appear before the Harare Magistrates’ Court tomorrow following his arrest by the Commercial Crimes Division in connection with an alleged fraudulent property transfer involving Stand 163 Quinnington in Borrowdale.
David Donzvambewa of Jiti Law Chambers was arrested on allegations of fraud and is being held at Rhodesville Police Station under CR Number 275/5/26 and CIDCCCDR99/5/26.
The arrest follows investigations into the ownership of Stand 163 Quinnington, a property registered in the name of Bluegen Consultancy.
Police are investigating allegations that Grace Communications, a company which Donzvambewa allegedly represented, used a disputed deed of transfer in an attempt to claim ownership of the property.
Investigators reportedly suspect that the deed of transfer may have been fraudulently produced and are probing allegations that it carried the forged signature of Ellen Runyararo Mawire, a principal examiner with the Deeds Registry.
As part of the investigations, detectives are said to have recorded a statement from Mawire regarding the authenticity of the documents allegedly used in the transaction.
Further investigations reportedly raised questions over the registration details of Grace Communications, with allegations that the company may have been registered using inaccurate information, including an address that could not readily be verified.
Donzvambewa is understood to have told investigators that he was acting on behalf of Grace Communications in his professional capacity as a legal practitioner. The company’s directors are reportedly being sought by police.
Although police could not immediately comment on the matter, sources said the lawyer eventually handed himself over to the police after detectives had spent several weeks trying to interview him.
The State is expected to outline the allegations when Donzvambewa appears in court.
The accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
