A 23-year-old man has been convicted and sentenced to prison for carrying out an armed robbery at a homestead in Seke, where he threatened two victims with a pistol before making off with cash and valuables.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed that Phineas Goredema (23) was convicted on 2 July 2026 in connection with a robbery that occurred at a homestead in Rubatika Village, Seke, on 5 February 2026.
According to police, Goredema, while armed with a pistol, attacked the two victims and robbed them of US$1,423, an HP laptop, and several cellular phones before fleeing from the scene.
Following investigations, detectives arrested Goredema, leading to his successful prosecution before the courts.
He was subsequently sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment for the offence.
Police have reiterated that armed robbery remains a serious offence that attracts custodial sentences. The ZRP also urged members of the public to remain vigilant, safeguard their property, and promptly report suspicious persons or criminal activities to the nearest police station to assist in the prevention and detection of crime.
The conviction highlights the commitment of law enforcement agencies and the courts to ensuring that offenders are brought to justice and that communities are protected from violent crime.
