Six Killed in Tragic Harare–Bulawayo Road Accident

Harare, 30 July 2026 – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed a fatal road traffic accident that claimed six lives and left six other people injured along the Harare–Bulawayo Road in Harare.

According to a press statement issued by the ZRP, the accident occurred on 29 July 2026 at around 2200 hours at the 9-kilometre peg near the Tynwald Rail Road Flyover, close to the Harare Drive junction.

Police say a kombi carrying 11 passengers veered off the road and plunged into a deep concrete-lined gully containing water. Six passengers died as a result of the crash, while the remaining six sustained injuries and were rushed to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for treatment.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to the same hospital’s mortuary for post-mortem examinations. Police indicated that efforts to identify and notify the next of kin of all the victims are still underway.

The ZRP expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are continuing.

This tragic incident has once again highlighted the growing concern over road safety on Zimbabwe’s highways, particularly during night travel.
