HARARE — The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has warned licensed firearm holders against the negligent, irresponsible and unlawful handling of firearms, saying guns must never be brandished, discharged to intimidate people or used to settle personal disputes.
The warning follows the arrest of Evans Peter Marozva (49), who allegedly discharged a licensed pistol during a dispute at a shop in Stonebridge, Harare, on 19 July 2026.
According to police, the bullet reportedly ricocheted off the floor before striking a 31-year-old man on the leg.
The firearm has since been confiscated, while Marozva is facing criminal charges.
The ZRP has reminded all licensed firearm holders that possessing a firearm comes with a serious responsibility and that firearms must only be handled and used in strict compliance with the law.
Members of the public are urged to avoid using firearms during arguments, confrontations or disputes, as reckless handling or discharge of a gun can result in serious injury, loss of life and criminal prosecution.
A firearm is not a tool for intimidation or settling disputes. Handle it responsibly.
