HARARE— The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has officially intensified “Operation Iron Fist,” a massive nationwide crackdown aimed at taming the rampant abuse and misuse of explosives.

Working in coordination with various state agencies since April 2026, the police have begun naming and shaming high-profile individuals and mining entities caught in the dragnet.

THE CRACKDOWN BY THE NUMBERS

The ZRP confirmed that serious efforts are underway to dismantle syndicates and account for institutions totally disregarding the country’s laws. To date, several prominent mining figures and companies have been *arrested and convicted* by the courts.

Convicted Entities & Mining Officials:

  Walter Maranda (Heritage Mine)

  Patience Ncube (Imbesu Mine)

Forbes Tarwirei (Murray Minerals Resources Mine)

Dalabuhle Sibanda (Happy Valley Mine Pvt Ltd)

  Everservice Investment Private Limited

  Rangariraayi Clive Mavhiya (Trustone Mine)

Energy Makoni & Tafadzwa Gurutsa* (By Chance 73 Mine)

  Precious Paradza (Runxin Mine)

CRIME FOCUS: The Hidden Danger of Explosives

The illegal trade and misuse of explosives are not "victimless" crimes. They are often the backbone of unregistered mining (makorokoza) and ATM bombings. Unregulated blasting causes:

Structural Damage: Weakening of tunnels leading to mine collapses.

Environmental Hazards: Contamination of water sources with chemical residues.

Public Safety Risks: The risk of accidental detonation during transport on public roads.

SAFETY TIPS & CITIZEN ADVICE

The ZRP advises all mining stakeholders and the general public to adhere to the following safety and legal protocols:

 1. Verify Permits: Ensure all blasting activities are conducted by a holder of a valid Blasting Certificate.

 2. Storage Compliance: Explosives must be stored in approved, licensed magazines, never in residential homes or informal sheds.

 3. Transport Regulations: Never transport explosives in public transport vehicles (kombis) or private cars without the required police escort and specialized containers.

 4. Reporting Suspicious Activity: If you see unmarked boxes being moved in the middle of the night or individuals selling "blasting sticks" in local communities, notify the police immediately.

ADVOCACY: For a Safer Zimbabwe

We advocate for Responsible Mining and Community Vigilance. The misuse of these materials threatens the national security of Zimbabwe.

Support Legal Mining:  We urge all small-scale miners to regularize their operations and procure explosives through legal, tracked channels.

Zero Tolerance: There is no "small" amount of illegal explosive use. One stick can cause a catastrophe.

The ZRP Chief Staff Officer (Public Relations) issued a definitive warning:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police warns companies found to be on the wrong side of the law that stern action will be taken without fear or favour.

PUBLIC HOTLINE OPEN

Authorities are urging all Zimbabweans to act as whistleblowers to help flush out illegal traders.
