HARARE — An anonymous job seeker has accused a man identified as Clive T. Kaseke of allegedly demanding money in connection with promised employment that, according to the complainant, never materialised.
The complainant told Crime Focus that Kaseke allegedly presented himself as a job agent and offered to assist him in securing employment as a general worker, including work involving households and general groundsman duties.
According to the complainant, communication about the alleged job opportunity took place through WhatsApp, with Kaseke allegedly referring to employment opportunities linked to Greencroft and a salary of approximately US$120.
Screenshots reviewed by Crime Focus show a conversation dated July 3, 2026, in which the alleged job agent discussed an “agent fee” and told the complainant that payment was required before the employment opportunity could proceed.
The complainant alleges that after the initial payment, he was later asked for additional money.
The WhatsApp exchanges show the complainant repeatedly seeking updates on the promised job. In one exchange, he appears to express concern over the delay, while the other party allegedly reassures him that the matter would be resolved.
On July 10, 2026, the complainant allegedly requested his money back, saying he needed the funds to pursue another opportunity. The alleged job agent reportedly responded, “Okay,” according to the screenshots supplied to Crime Focus.
The complainant claims that the promised employment never materialised and that he was later blocked after demanding answers and seeking the return of his money.
Screenshots also show Kaseke participating in a WhatsApp group titled “GENERAL HELPER, maids, gar…”, where employment-related discussions allegedly took place. In the group, messages refer to general work and a salary of US$120, while other messages discuss employment opportunities.
The complainant says he has retained WhatsApp conversations and other evidence relating to the alleged transactions and is considering reporting the matter to law enforcement authorities.
The allegations raise concerns about the vulnerability of unemployed job seekers who may be asked to pay money before securing employment. Job seekers are generally advised to verify employment opportunities and recruitment agencies before making payments.
Crime Focus has contacted or is seeking a response from Clive T. Kaseke regarding the allegations. Any response received will be published fairly.
The allegations remain unproven, and Kaseke is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a competent court.
