If you or someone you know has been raped by a person who is known or believed to be living with HIV, seek medical attention immediately.
⏱️ Do not wait. Do not panic. Act quickly.
🏥 Seek medical care urgently
Ask healthcare professionals about HIV Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP). PEP can help reduce the risk of HIV infection after possible exposure and is most effective when started as soon as possible—ideally within 24 hours and no later than 72 hours after the incident. It is generally taken for 28 days.
🧪 Get comprehensive post-rape care
Medical professionals can provide:
- HIV testing and counselling
- PEP assessment and treatment
- STI prevention and treatment
- Treatment for physical injuries
- Emergency contraception where appropriate
- Forensic medical examination and support
👮 Report the crime
Rape is a serious crime. Report the matter to the police and request assistance from the Victim Friendly Unit.
⚠️ Remember:
The survivor is not to blame. The responsibility lies entirely with the perpetrator.
If the rape happened within the last 72 hours, go to the nearest hospital or clinic immediately. Do not delay treatment while waiting to report to the police.
